His Perfect Package Page 3

“I love you, Cookie Keene. I think I have from the moment I saw you with that damn Santa hat falling over your eyes.”

  Chapter Eight

  Holden

I thought admitting my true feelings for Cookie out loud would be tough. It had been a long time since I’d used the L-word with anyone. But it felt natural and right.

And so did Cookie’s reaction. She squealed with delight and crushed her lips to mine. When she finally came up for air, there was the sweetest smile on her face.

“I love you too, Holden,” she sighed happily. “I wish I could stay in your arms forever.”

I groaned with satisfaction and felt my cock stirring against Cookie’s luscious curves. “I feel the same way, sweetheart, in case you can’t tell.”

Cookie laughed and gave me a deeper kiss. It was just about to turn in much more when I heard the sound of an engine coming up the dirt road to the house.

I peeled myself away from Cookie with a growl of frustration. I had no idea who was approaching my farm, but it sounded like they were driving something big.

I was instantly on high-alert and pushed my desire for Cookie to the side in favor of making sure she stayed safe. I jumped to my feet, found my jeans, and yanked them on.

Cookie was still reclined on the moving blankets we’d turned into our love nest. Her hair was a sexy mess and her juicy body was still on full display.

Seeing her looking so exposed and vulnerable sent a surge of possessiveness coursing through me.

“You should get dressed, sweetheart. I don’t want anyone seeing my woman naked.”

Cookie flushed with pleasure and quickly set to covering the delicious body I adored. There was no way I was going to let anyone else lay their eyes on her without at least a robe on—that was a private show and I was the only one with a ticket.

“Do you think it’s a customer, Holden?”

Cookie sounded nervous. I wanted her to know she never had to worry about anything ever again. Not with me to protect her. So, I shook my head and pulled her into my arms.

“It’s Sunday and the farm is closed for business. I’m not sure who it could be, but I’m going to find out and then send them packing.”

Cookie nodded and smiled. “Oh, I’m sure you will. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go up against a man mountain like you.”

A jolt of pride shot through me at Cookie’s words. “Not unless it’s someone looking to have their face rearranged. But just to be safe, I want you to stay in the barn while I check it out.”

I pressed a kiss to Cookie’s sweet mouth and headed for the barn doors. After grabbing the shirt and jacket I’d taken off earlier to work on Dad’s truck, I stepped out into the yard to see who’d shattered my perfect morning with my woman.

There was a massive tow truck and a tiny man in my driveway. I almost laughed at the sight, but then I realized he must be there to bring Cookie and her truck back into town—and away from me.

I held out a hand in greeting to the driver and told him I’d be right with him. The mousy-looking guy just shrugged and went about hooking the delivery truck up for its journey.

My heart was pounding as I returned to Cookie’s side and I was sick at the thought of her leaving.

I’d just found the love of my life. I didn’t want to miss out on even a moment with her from here on out.

“It’s the tow truck from your company,” I told Cookie before gathering her back up into my arms. I was quickly becoming addicted to having her flesh pressed to mine.

I watched her face fall at hearing the news. My blood boiled at the thought of her being sad for any reason. And just being so close to her again brought my desire for her right back to the surface.

But what was below my belt wasn’t the only part of me that didn’t want Cookie to leave. She had my heart feeling as full as my balls.

I knew I couldn’t let her walk away. I pulled back from Cookie far enough to look deep into her eyes.

“You should stay, Cookie. This doesn’t have to end, even for a second, not if you don’t want it to—I’ll do whatever it takes to make you happy and keep you in my life.”

Her face lit up but then quickly fell once more. “I have to work to pay my bills, Holden, and that means I’ve got to leave at some point.”

I grinned and gestured around the barn with one hand. “I can give you all the work you can handle. Hell, I probably should have brought on help years ago, but I don’t like people.”

Cookie laughed. “Well, I don’t think that’s an issue here.” She went quiet and I could see her wheels turning. “But I don’t think I’d be the best manual laborer in the world, to be honest.”

I lifted one of her creamy smooth hands and brought it up to my mouth to kiss it. “I’d never think of putting these pretty things at risk by having you cut and haul trees, sweetheart.”

Cookie was obviously pleased with my compliment but still looked concerned. “What else could I possibly do around here?”

“I can think of one thing you’re more than qualified to do,” I growled playfully and then brought the hand I’d just kissed down to my rapidly hardening cock. “And there are plenty of perks that come with the position, from what I’ve seen so far.”

“Holden! You’re horrible,” Cookie cried in mock dismay and gave my hard-on a firm squeeze. “That’s tempting and it does sound like the best offer ever. But seriously, I need a job.”

“I could use someone to work with the customers, to be honest,” I said in a much more professional tone. “I’m the furthest thing from a people person, and I think your natural Christmas cheer would go a long way to selling more trees.”

Cookie nodded slowly and I watched as acceptance and amazement dawned on her beautiful face. “So, you’re thinking about a customer relations management job?”

“Exactly! Unless you just love delivering packages so much that you can’t bear the thought of working at Holtz Farm.”

“Oh, that is most definitely not the case,” Cookie said as she wrinkled her nose in a fiercely adorable way. “I don’t care if I never deliver another package again.”

Her eyes widened suddenly in surprise and she burst out laughing. “Speaking of deliveries, you never did open the box I came all the way out here to bring you.”

“That’s because I was too busy unwrapping you, sweetheart, and you’ve turned out to be an absolutely perfect package.”

Then I leaned in to claim Cookie’s mouth with mine once more, and we were lost in each other so completely, I didn’t know if we’d ever be found again.

Which was more than fine with me. As long as I had my Christmas Cookie in my arms for the rest of my life, everyone and everything else could go straight to Hell, for all I cared.

  Epilogue

  Cookie

I was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on Christmas dinner when Holden’s massive arms came up from behind me and pulled me back against his rock-hard chest.

You’d think after five years, I’d have gotten used to how easily he could turn me into a puddle of desire, but Holden was still making me as hot as the very first time I’d laid my eyes on him.

“Everything smells great, sweetheart. Need any help?”

I soaked up the pleasure of feeling his well-muscled body pressed to mine for a while longer without saying a word. My husband was not only the sexiest man I’d ever met, but he was also the sweetest.

With a smile, I turned around and gave myself a treat by looking at Holden standing there in the ugly Christmas sweater I’d picked out for him to wear that night. He made it look better than any male model ever could.

“I’ve got everything in here handled, my love, but if you could keep an ear out for Sugar, it would help a lot. She’s due to wake up from her nap any time now.”

Holden’s face lit up at the mention of our four-year-old daughter. “Consider me officially on Princess duty.”

He gave a little salute, slapped me on the ass, and head
ed out to the living room to be closer to Sugar’s bedroom, so he could hear her the instant she awakened.

I laughed and enjoyed the show as Holden’s tight ass worked in his jeans. He still sent shivers running down my spine and tingles racing up my thighs.

With a happy sigh, I turned my attention back to the ham, but my thoughts stayed on Holden and our happy family. I was honestly still amazed at how quickly and easily we’d come together.

After a whirlwind night with Holden, I’d left my job with American Parcel Service to work at Holtz Christmas Tree Farm, and not long after, I moved in with the man who would become my husband.

My best friend had told me she thought I was nuts for leaving my job and the apartment I’d been renting in town to move way out in the sticks with a stranger. Emily had never been one to hold back, so I wasn’t surprised in the least.

But in fact, she was the one who’d ended up being shocked when things had worked out so well, and Holden had made me his wife.

Of course, no matter her thoughts or feelings, Emily had stood by me and supported my relationship with Holden.

Which was probably the main reason we still held to our tradition of celebrating the holidays together each year.

But it was no longer two single friends drinking wine, baking cookies, and watching seasonal movies until the wee hours.

Now, we shared our Christmas cheer with our husbands and children. Emily had met and fallen in love with Holden’s cousin, Scott at our wedding, and we were all tickled to become one big family when the two married a year later.

“Emily and her clan have arrived, sweetheart,” Holden called from the other room. “They’ve even got little Ben in an ugly sweater.”

I loved hearing the amusement in my husband’s voice when he told me Emily and Scott had their infant son dressed for the holiday celebration.

Holden had hated Christmas when I’d first met him, but I’d smothered him with so much love and holiday cheer over the years, he was now just as big of a nut about the season as I was.

I hurried to finish with dinner and take off my apron. I knew I didn’t have long before my best friend came swooping into the kitchen for hugs and our first cup of eggnog of the night.

Moments later, I heard Emily’s voice from behind me, and I turned to find her holding my sleepy-looking daughter on one hip, and wearing a smile that lit up the whole room.

“I still think Sugar is kind of a silly name,” Em said as she came over to hug me with her free arm. “But I have to admit, it suits her more each year. She’s the sweetest thing ever, aren’t you, little love? I couldn’t resist nabbing her before Holden could get to her.”

After kissing Sugar on the cheek, Emily handed her over to me, and I snuggled her in my arms. And then I turned and playfully stuck my tongue out at my best friend.

“Auntie Emily doesn’t understand a theme when it comes to choosing names, does she, Sugar Plum? What else could we name you when your Mama is a Cookie?”

My daughter looked up at me with eyes that were the same brilliant blue as her father’s. Her sweet face was framed by soft brunette waves she’d inherited from me.

My heart was so full in that moment, I thought it might actually burst, but then Sugar gave an adorable giggle and wiggled in my arms, begging to be released to go and find her favorite person.

“Papa, Papa,” she cried and hurried toward the living room, where Holden would scoop her up in his arms and lavish love on his Princess.

“She’s such a Daddy’s girl,” I sighed and shook my head. “I don’t know where she gets such an obsession for Holden from.”

“Oh, you don’t, do you?” Emily laughed and handed me a cup of spiked eggnog. “I think I might have a clue!”

I blushed as we clinked our glasses and toasted another wonderful year. “Well, you can’t really blame either of us, can you?”

“True enough,” Emily laughed. “Hell, even I’m obsessed with a member of the Holtz family. Blame it on great genes.”

“And on them looking great in jeans, of course.”

My best friend and I giggled like a couple of schoolgirls, linked arms, and then headed out to join our husbands and kids for some holiday festivities.

Holden was sitting on the couch and watching Sugar as she inspected baby Ben with wonder. I sank down into my husband’s lap and gave him a kiss that left us both gasping.

“Hey, now,” he growled in my ear. “Don’t start something we can’t finish, sweet Cookie.”

“Oh, we’ll definitely get to it later,” I said with a teasingly innocent smile as I pressed my ass against his bulge. “I’ve got a very special package for you that I still have to deliver.”

Holden groaned softly. “And you know I love to unwrap my perfect package as often as humanly possible.”

With a tender kiss and a final sneaky caress, I climbed out of Holden’s lap, and we went back to celebrating the happiest time of the year with the people we loved most in the world.
